Saudi Arabia is a prosperous oil state on the Arabic Peninsula. The two holiest places of Islam, Mecca and Medina, are located in this kingdom. A Hadj or pilgrimage to Mecca one of the five pillars of Islam and obligatory for every Muslim who is able-bodied and can afford it. Mecca holds al-Masjid al-Haram, the mosque with the Ka'aba, the holiest place in the world. Prophet Mohammed’s mosque stands in Medina, where the Prophet had passed away.

Non-Muslims are not allowed to visit these holy cities. Saudi Arabia largely consists of vast deserts, but has a beautiful coast line too. You can dive to colorful reefs in the Red Sea and in the capitol Riyadh you can visit traditional souqs and hypermodern malls. But above all, Saudi Arabia, and Mecca in particular, is the place all Muslims direct their prayers to.
